Something at least
Reflecting the growing American anger being directed towards the Bushies and the increasing nervousness of the Republicans regarding the 2006 elections, the US Senate actually did something of some positive benefit to the country. After rejecting a Democratic sponsored call for the administration to develop a timetable for Iraq withdrawal, a bipartisan vote passed 98-0. The measure would restrict interrogation techniques, ban inhumane treatment and calls for the Bush administration to provide lawmakers with quarterly reports on the Iraq effort.
Senate Majority Leader Bill (Insider Trading) Frist, R-Tenn., crowed tastelessly regarding the rejection of the Democratic proposal... “It is an absolute repudiation of the cut-and-run strategy put forward by the Democrats.” It seems his stupidity is without boundaries as he implies the same stale administration line that any dissent from the failed Iraqi cowboy adventure is un-American and doesn't support the troops. People aren't buying that crap anymore – wake up!
The chicken hawk torturers in the administration are objecting to the US House version of the bill as it contains a provision to impose prohibitions on the use of "cruel, inhuman and degrading" treatment suspects in U.S. Custody. Not willing to answer why we cannot accede to this prohibition since we “do not torture” suspects, the House bill may be vetoed so we can torture suspects.
It would be nice if the Congress actually served America on a regular basis instead of playing games. It would also be nice if the so-called Republicans actually did something other than wear knee-pads for Georgie. People are dying in this fiasco.
