Excuses, Excuses

The Associated Press, no doubt in response to pressure from the White House, has released a clarification of it's report earlier this week that revealed Bush knew of the possibility that the levees might be breached. The AP now states:

In a March 1 story, The Associated Press reported that federal disaster officials warned President George W. Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees in New Orleans, citing confidential video footage of an Aug. 28 briefing among U.S. Officials.

The Army Corps of Engineers considers a breach a hole developing in a levee rather than an overrun. The story should have made clear that Bush was warned about flood waters overrunning the levees, rather than the levees breaking.

Apparently, the Bush toadies are trying to say no one ever told the President the levees would be 'breached', rather they may be 'overrun' or 'topped'. Uh, huh. Sounds like it “depends on what the meaning of is, is.”

Which word was used to describe the coming danger is totally irrelevant, the Bush apologists are simply trying to nuance an escape for him. Bush is a guy who wouldn't know the nuanced difference between the words anyways and he proudly proclaims he doesn't do nuance - he does Texan. The fact remains he failed miserably in his sworn duty to defend America – yes, it's true Georgie, black people are Americans too. He lied when evidence showed his failure and he doesn't accept any responsibility. Katrina was a natural disaster, Bush is America's.
