Look No Further

The 2008 Democratic presidential candidate is apparent for all of those willing to look. With the weasel like 'renewal' of the Patriot Act passing 89-10, there were few US Senators willing to stand firm and say NO. Why, is a mystery as the shortcomings of the act, it's invasion of privacy, and how it enables the continued erosion of American liberties cannot be denied. Speaking with flourish, but no meat, most Democrats once again caved liked spineless jellyfish. There was a bright beacon once again - Sen. Russ Feingold:

"If Democrats can't stand up on something like this when the president's poll numbers are 34 percent, I just wonder how much right we have to govern this country," Feingold said in an interview Tuesday. "You've got to show people you believe in something, not just that you're gaming the issues."

"Americans want to defeat terrorism and they want the basic character of this country to survive and prosper," he said. "They want both security and liberty, and unless we give them both — and we can if we try — we have failed."

Feingold's chief ally, Sen. Robert C. Byrd (news, bio, voting record), D-W.Va., said the package was not enough to check what he described as a presidential tendency through history of "always grabbing more power. The erosion of freedom rarely comes as an all-out frontal assault......Rather, it is a gradual, noxious creeping cloaked in secrecy and glossed over by reassurances of greater security."

Feingold continues to distinguish himself with votes based upon principle and what is best for America. Too bad he has such little support from his other party members. Clinton, Kerry, Biden? As Feingold says, “(their) gaming the issues.” Go Russ. Posted on The Human Stain
