Never Ending Conflict

Addressing some troops of V Corps who are embarking for another tour in Iraq, Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, V Corps commander since 2003, who spent a tumultuous year in Iraq, told the soldiers that conditions there have changed, and although ultimately Iraq has a “prosperous future,” its current condition is problematic. “The country’s on the verge of a civil war,” he said, and told the soldiers the mission now is to transfer responsibility for Iraq stability to Iraqi troops, including what he said had been “neglected police capacity.”

Gen. George Casey recently said that by late next fall, the Iraqi military should be able to largely take the lead in the country's defense, with continued support from U.S. and coalition transition teams, cautioning that U.S. forces will still be in the lead in portions of Iraq until sometime in 2007. Casey also said the Iraqi police forces would not be able to take charge of internal security until late next year or early 2007.

So America will be there well into 2007, the country is falling into a civil war, and we continue to build permanent military bases there. Sounds more and more like Vietnam.

Didn't we recently hear from Dick “Torture” Cheney that the insurgency was in it's last throes?

He couldn't have been lying to us – could he?
