Not Good Learners – Good Liars

American troops are not the first to enter Iraq after military victory, as exhibited by the British in 1917. The Iraqi public was told by the British: “We come to you not as occupiers, but as liberators.” Sound familiar?? When the British finally left Iraq in 1932, they left behind a cemetery filled with the remains of 33,000 soldiers. Most of those were killed at the hands of a vicious insurgency determined to rid the homeland of foreign troops. Using that as a guide, we can expect to be in Iraq until at least 2018. Most people know that history is there for us to learn from - rather than repeat.

Well, no one can ever accuse America of being good at history, but we are damn good at repeating mistakes. Soon after the Iraqi invasion, perceptions in that country revealed a belief that the US will never leave Iraq and will build permanent military bases. These perceptions fuel the insurgency and provide ammunition for extremists entering into Iraq, we are creating more terrorists by staying.

If one was to believe the Bushies, we are going to leave. Well, America knows now that whatever Bush says, truth lies in exactly the opposite direction. If we are not staying, why are we building these bases?

The neo-con fascists who man the watch towers for the “People for a New American Century” (PNAC) actually state that the forward redeployment of US forces at new strategically placed permanent military bases is desirous, and that the military should be enlarged, equipped and trained for the “peacekeeping role” it is increasingly called upon to fulfill. This global police force would have the power to keep law and order around the world in accordance with United States interests. The PNAC also advocates that the United States government should capitalize on its military and economic superiority to gain unchallengeable superiority through all means necessary, including military force.

Present and former members include William J. Bennett, Jeb Bush, Ellen Bork (the wife of Robert Bork), Dick Cheney, Lewis Libby, Richard Perle, Donald Rumsfeld, and Paul Wolfowitz. Good little fascists, all.
