It's the media's fault
Let's blame it all on the media. Maybe Americans missed something, but did the media invade Iraq? Did they say we will be looked at as liberators and welcomed with open arms? Did they claim the invasion had to occur because of WMD's? Did the media fail to provide armor for our soldiers? Did the media fail to plan for how to reconstruct Iraq once victory was achieved? Did the media torture innocent people in the Iraqi prisons? The failures never end with this group – but it's not their fault.
Rumsfeld gave a speech today stating: “To be responsible, one needs to stop defining success in Iraq as the absence of terrorist attacks,.....A lie moves around the world at the speed of light..... (there is a) jarring contrast between what the American people are reading and hearing about Iraq and the views of the Iraqi people.” Well, Don, maybe the Iraqi's are being influenced by phony American propaganda.
He also implied that the US public is hung up on the death toll and shouldn't judge the “progress” in Iraq on that measure alone. What an amoral bastard he is. Lives of American citizens are just cannon fodder for him.
