Mainstream Media – Out of touch pooh pahs?
This morning on Meet the Press there was another example of why the Washington media crowd is not highly regarded by the rest of America. Here was the “dean” of Washington media, David Broder from the Washington Post opining about President Bush and his consistency.
Mr. Broder states:
“Let me say one word in defense of the president. He has been absolutely consistent from the time he began running for the Republican nomination in saying no litmus test on a single issue for judges. He was under great pressure when he was a not can--seeking the nomination to make that pledge, and he refused to do it then. He continues to refuse to do it. Whether you agree with him or not, have you to say he has been absolutely consistent in that position.”
Now does anyone really think there is no litmus test on this appointment? We all know statements made in public are totally different than assurances and conversations held in private. While it is possible Bush doesn’t know Mier's abortion views – it’s not likely, as they have known each other for 15 or more years. Why wouldn’t a very experienced member of the media acknowledge this possibility?
