It Will Happen II

Hearing anyone extol the virtues of the American healthcare system, one has to wonder about the vacant realty between their ears. We have the most expensive medical care in the world, with a huge proportion of the costs directly related to 'administrative functions'.

Perversely, our extra spending doesn't seem to buy us better medical care. According to virtually every meaningful statistic, from simple measures like infant mortality to more carefully constructed data like "potential years of life lost," Americans are no healthier (and are frequently unhealthier) than the citizens of countries with universal health care. Nor do Americans always get "more" medical care, as is commonly assumed.

The citizens of Japan, for example, have more CT scanners and MRI machines than we do. And the French, whose system the World Health Organization recently declared the planet's best, have more hospital beds. They get more doctor visits, too, perhaps because their access to physicians is nearly unfettered — a privilege even most middle-class Americans surrendered with the spread of managed care. In fact, aside from cost, the measure on which the United States most conspicuously stands out from other advanced nations may be public opinion: In a series of polls a few years ago, just 40 percent of us said we were "fairly or very" satisfied with our health care system, fourth worst of the 17 nations surveyed.

People are getting sick and tired of the parasites, lining their pockets while America's citizens are being denied needed care. Wake up Dem's. This is something to fight for and to win with. This is what government exists for and this is the right time.

Is America a truly great nation if we neglect our own citizens?

  • You people could be the most liberal people on the planet! You always try to spin things to make it look as if everything is the governments fault. I don't want the government involved in my health-care. i want to choose my own doctors, on my terms, and pay for myself. (My private insurance).

I'm not surprised that someone who posts a Blog such as yours would quote the WHO. This is just another liberal one world government organization. We live in America, not France or Japan. For the truth about Japan, please see this site.

Now if you realy want to know the truth as to why our health care system is in shambles, please see this site

This is from the American Medical Association. Doctors can't afford to practice, because thier malpractice insurance is unaffordable, because they are sue every other day, by some cry baby who didn't like the treatment they got. Doctors are humans too, and are going to make mistakes. We as a society need to understand this. We cannot keep runing to a lawyer everytime something doesn't go exactly our way!

  • The governement is made up of people too - and they are going to make mistakes. Doctors and the AMA need to do a better job getting poor practitioners out of the profession. Far too many times it has been revealed that incompetent doctors have been known of and not properly disciplined by state license boards. Keep the profession top notch - would the lawsuits decrease? Don't know of anyone who likes seeing powerless people - whether elderly, poor, or children denied healthcare and just shoved aside. Hope you don't either.

  • Apparently you did not read the link I posted. Do yoou really think that every neurosugeon in South Florida is a poor practitioner, or that the AMA states that every Doctor in South Florida can expect to be sued at least 1.44 times in their career, is normal?

You are right, I do not want to see people pushed aside because they are poor, elderly, or otherwise powerless. But again, I do not think that it is the Governments responsibility to take care of everyone. If you would read the other link I posted, you can see that it is a problem in Japan.

Besides, for the Government to run it, they have to collect tax dollars to pay for it! I PAY ENOUGH TAXES!!! IF we could see real Tort reform in this country, and also see people becoming responsible for themselves, and not sueing over a hang nail, a private system could handle the people you are refering to.

But the way it is now, I have friend that is a doctor, that used to do some volunteer work, until one of the "patients" did not do as they were told when they went home, and got a severe infection, and spent severeal weeks in the hospital. This patient sued my friend and won, because the patient convinced the jury that the Doctors instructions were not clear enough to follow. So instead of clarifying them, they spent a few weeks in the hospital and got themselves a few hundred thousand for not listening!

Now, do you think my friend will ever do any work for free again? NO! And the reason she won't is, our system is broken!

People need to be accountable for thier own actions. The Government is not a babysitter.

But I do agree that incompetant doctors should be disciplined, upto and including loosing thier license. However it should not be the Government overseeing this, but the AMA or a professional review board.

  • Let's put all the cards on the operating table!

I'd like to see what the average income is for doctors, medical insurance company executives and medical industry lobbyist?

Hey...do you think GM and Ford are falling into the business abyss because their cars aren't of quality...nnnnnooooo...they, like us are victims of continually rising PRIVATE health insurance costs. Get real, anonymous 1, your gonna pay one way or the other.

It won't be long before we're paying so much that it would be cheaper to have an honest Gov't handling it, if we could finally have an honest Gov't.
