No Vote Hypocrites

The high drama involving confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito to the US Supreme Court has mercifully run it's course. While the Republicans have revealed themselves as amoral, America hating, power mad troglodytes who love keeping rich white guys on top, the Democrats have done far worse in this episode.

The party of the people had a Jekyll and Hyde persona – unfortunately both sides were bad.

One side of the Dem's was exemplified by the conduct of Senators John Kerry and Ted Kennedy along with their compatriots who stood in steadfast opposition to Alito. Their stand was one of principle and true concern for the fate of future American generations, although it was also tinged with some Bush bashing malice (justifiably so). Their stand was valiant, but it was too late and it sputtered in action, thereby revealing the party had no plan for Alito's opposition. If this is how the Dem's are going to run the next Presidential campaign, we are in trouble.

The other side was exemplified by all the Senators who refused to vote against cloture and later voted against Alito's confirmation. Whatever type of political calculations these squirming turncoats made that supposedly “justified” their craven, hypocritical, and selfish votes - they were totally without basis and lacking the smallest semblance of reason. These individuals are perfect examples of why the American public holds politicians in such low regard. Continually posturing and exhorting the voters on the need to take principled stands, to define right from wrong, to stand for honor and integrity – their actions proved the vast hollowness of their words. There is a very simple reality that they can mightily try to explain away – but it's purity cannot be diluted. If they voted NO on Alito's confirmation, they were logically bound to have voted against ending debate (cloture). As Alito is bad for America, then knowing that the Senate vote would be rubber stamping, their duty to protect America and honor the often spoken ideals they spout on about - was to vote against cloture. The ONLY chance half of this nation had to prevent the destructive forces about to be unleashed on our children was the filibuster of Samuel Alito. Say what you will about Bush, but Americans perceive him as a man of conviction. Americans like people who stick to a course – come hell or high water. Would be nice if the Dem's had some prominent people like that.

Hopefully the constituents of these empty vessels will be holding them accountable in the next elections. Not only have they failed their states, they have failed a nation. Shameful.
